Internship Position for Events Co-ordinator

I Am Somebody! invites applications from enthusiastic and motivated individuals for its event co-ordinator internship position (unpaid).

Our organisation hosts regular community building and fundraising events throughout the year. These often take the form of intimate soirees (evening performances) in people's homes featuring renowned artists, with 30 to 40 people attending. While the focus is on fundraising, it is just as important for these events to be spaces where everyone feels welcome feels the spirit of our work. The successful applicant will meet a range of South African artists, people from all walks of life and gain valuable experience in working with people and event co-ordination. We are looking for a marketing/events management student or an individual with marketing/events management experience to work as an intern, 1 – 2 days per week. Requirements:
  • A relevant degree or three-year diploma in marketing/events management OR be studying towards such a qualification
  • A warm, confident and friendly nature, and passion for people
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to establish and maintain authentic relationships with people from all walks of life
  • Punctual, efficient and organised, works with attention to detail and uses own initiative
  • Resonate with the vision and mission of I Am Somebody!
  • The ability to establish and maintain long-term authentic relationships with individuals and business people
  • Understanding of and contacts in the local arts scene an advantage

Responsibilities:
  • Organising monthly soirees and any other fundraising and community building events throughout the year
  • Securing sponsorship from businesses
  • Finding and co-ordinating appropriate artists to perform at events
  • Finding appropriate homes to host the soirees in, across a range of communities
  • Marketing the events in newspapers, on local radio and social media
  • Co-ordinating bookings and ticket payments
  • Keeping accurate records of income received
  • Updating database of sponsors and people attending events
  • Communicating the essence and ethos of the organisation to all you deal with
  • Running the events when they happen, including set-up, break down and clean-up
  • Liaising with all relevant people around the events
